Mmmm...Christmas cookies...

Well, so far so bad.  The holidays are a terrible time to try and lose weight, especially with the smell of delicious foods wafting through the air and the sweet deliciousness of goodies calling my name.  And yes, as my future brother-in-law likes to point out, "It's all about portion control".  However, in my mind, when I get those delicious peanut butter cookies with the chocolate kiss in the center in front of me, a "portion" equals one batch.  Ok, not really, but I could certainly eat a dozen without a second thought.  They're just so darn good!!  The marriage of the soft peanut butter cookie with the smooth milk chocolate kiss is Heaven on my tongue.  Anyway, enough about cookies, especially since I just ate two of said tasty cookies.

Yesterday and today have been lovely.  Yesterday, I slept in like a lazy bum, got up, did 20 minutes of Wii Fit yoga, and called it quits.  I mean, I'm trying to get back into it, and I don't want to start off too strong, right?  That's what I like to tell myself at least.  After that back-breaking workout, it was shower time and time for errands.  Calvin and I ran into town (Calvin is my boyfriend of 6 years, for those of you that don't know), and then stopped at the always nutritious Wendy's for some dinner.  After a bacon deluxe, some shared spicy chipotle boneless chicken tenders and fries, and some Dr. Pepper (didn't I say the holidays suck for weight loss?), we headed over to Calvin's grandparents' house (Nanny and Grandpa).  We had a nice relaxing evening of Ohio State basketball, and talk of leatherwork and horses.  At one point Grandpa told me that he had a dog bone grafted into his jaw after he had to have part of his removed from an infection.  Now, in the back of my mind, I was thinking, "There is no way that they used dog bone.  Maybe pig, but that kind of xenograft is unheard of!"  However, Grandpa was so darn convincing that I became a gullible 6-year-old kid. He got up from the couch, walked over to me, and said, "Here, feel it.  You can still feel where they did it."  As I reached my hand up to feel this graft site, Grandpa barked, growled, and snapped at me, making me scream loudly and almost pee my pants.  That led to 10 minutes of laughing and me feeling like an idiot.  Ahhhhh, old humor.  I wish more humor today was that kind.  My dad is of the older age, and I have been blessed to grow up with funny things that he grew up with.  For example, a favorite saying of his is, "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal labotomy."  Classic.   But I digress.  After leaving Nanny and Grandpa's, we grabbed a couple of movies and headed home.  (Knight and Day, for those of you who haven't seen it, is a cute little action movie.)

Today, I got up at the crack of noon and headed into Sugarcreek with Calvin for some errands.  Calvin's mom got us each a full body massage as part of our Christmas presents, and we had our appointments this afternoon.  I've never had a massage before, and let me tell you, it was AMAZING.  One full hour of calming music, a warm table, soft blankets, and a massage was fabulous.  I fell asleep a couple of times and found myself deeply open-mouth breathing, which I'm sure is super attractive.  For any of you around the Coshocton area that would like a fabulous massage for a great price, please check out Nancy Dillon at Itta Bena Cabin.  She's amazingly nice and gives a killer massage.  Tonight's dinner consisted of steak, green bean fries and onion rings (because the last two count as vegetables, right?).  It was very tasty, but again, not the healthiest of dinners.  Oh well, it's still 2010, and 2011 is my skinny year.  Tonight will consist of more movie watching, more couch sitting, and possibly more cookie eating.  Ooooops!!  So, until next time, goodnight!! :D

Introduction

Hello to all of the three people that may actually read this blog!  Here's a little bit of background info.  My name is Liz and I'm a 4th year veterinary student.  I have about 3 months left of clinics on campus, and then I have an "off-quarter", where I will need to complete two 2-week externships.  Graduation is in June, and I'll actually be a veterinarian.  I cannot believe that my schooling is coming to an end!!  I've applied for a few internships in Texas, and now I'm just waiting to hear whether or not I got any of them.  Anyway, along with documenting my vet school journey, I'm also going to be documenting my weight-loss journey, and the road to a new me.  I've decided that I would like to get down to my goal weight this year, which is about 50 pounds lighter than I am now.  It's going to be a rough road, but I figured that writing it down and sharing it with others might hold me a little bit more accountable.  For now, it's late, and I need to go to bed, so until next time, goodnight!! :D
